Hello,
As you may have read i've been chasing the receipt for our venue deposit for over a month and over a week i was told they would email the woman incharge of the deposits and she would send me one. so i've been waiting and waiting and i decided to call them back and ask for the deposit womans number so i could phone her. I was told i wouldn't be receiving a receipt because my deposit was going to be returned to me and my booking cancelled because the Barn was being taken over by Orchard Catering and they were running everything as of this Tuesday! I was totally shocked, upset and paniced!
The first thing i did was to call the new company Orchard Catering straight away. I explained my situation and the lady on the phone, Claire, asked for my booking details.
'Oh yes Joanne Tyree, 1st of september next year, yeah i have you in our diary' So this was potentially good and bad news. This meant that we were technically booked in but i worried that we would have to have them catering which is what we didn't want in the first place. But after a few minutes of discussion with Claire she explained that ALL details of the original booking were going to stay the same including our option to self cater - YAY!! So she said the only thing that may change is the DJ which is fine by me.
I'm so glad this is sorted now.

Fabulous fabric!
Ladies I'm so excited right now!
On wednesday when i arrived home from work i found an envelope addressed to me, at first i thought it would be the receipt from the Barn but on closer inspection the envelope was stamped with an American postal mark which could only mean one thing............my Dolly Couture Fabric samples!!!
Originally i thought that i wanted my dress to be Ivory Taffeta however when i recieved my samples it changed my mind. The taffeta didn't look very nice to be honest it looked cheap, thin and almost plasticy, i couldn't imagine a dress made out of it.
However the satin fabric looks and feels a million dollars, it comes in white, Ivory and Champagne colours. I LOVE the champagne but i'm opting for ivory as it's alittle more traditional and i love it just as much!
I'll post a sneeky peek when my camera is charged and i can take a picture in the right light to show the colours.

Theme revisited
Hello my lovlies!
Ok so the Hollywood/film theme did seem a good idea until i started thinking about decorating the barn and the tables etc and it was difficult to get things to look right and not look tacky!
And then looking for wedding things naturally brings up different wedding styles and themes and one i LOVE LOVE LOVE!............Vintage! Think romantic florals, Girly prints, Homemade/DIY all the way!! Hell yes i'll take it!
So it's an easier theme to work with and we already have a million ideas for the reception! and it will fit in better with the barn! Win win!

Dress to impress!
Howdy guys and gals!
The company that make the wedding dress i have seen (and ultimately fallen in love with) have announced that they have to raise their price by $100. I know in the great scheme of wedding dresses thats not alot of money but the dress is already 4 times the amount i wanted to spend but i don't think a bride should settle on a dress she doesn't love 100% just for cost when you can spend a little more and get a dress you love 200%!! <3
NOTE TO SELF-Must remember to buy dress fabric samples.-UPDATE! i've already bought my fabric swatches!!!! and i'm so excited to get them!
I don't know the colour i want yet and to be honest i'd love to lose a load of weight between now and about 3 months before the big day so i can look half decent in the dress.

On my mind.
Well the deposit for our reception venue has been recieved by the Barn and we're just waiting on the reciept which seems to be almost impossible for them to send to us! i'm so excited and i want to book all the other things for the day like cars and photographers etc but you can't do that unless you have a ceremony time and thats one piece of the puzzle we don't have. Argh! But still i have plans and the numbers of car companies that i will contact as soon as we get our time :D
Although i really don't want this blog to be about me moaning about things but so far the companies i have called or e-mailed to get quotes or more info from i'd say only a third actually reply! How do these people keep their business going with such bad customer service?
It's a little disheartening when you get excited at a service you see on a website to then be ignored by the company due to very poor customer care. I've decided every company only gets one e-mail. I don't have forever to chase companies who will be costing the earth anyway, so i'll vote with my feet. Are you ready boots?

Theme of the wedding.
This is something that has been on my mind the past few weeks and has been driving me crazy. From tea party to japanese theme the ideas have all been good but they haven't seemed like the right one. At one point i settled on a japanese theme had it all mapped out but then i realised no one would really get the japanese theme an although Ben does like some Japanese cartoon etc it's more a 'me' thing than an 'us' thing :)
So after thinking about every theme possible my Cousins partner gave me some good advice, He said we should do things for us and use things that bring us together and interests we share so immediatly i thought of a movie theme wedding! All of our dates were at the cinema and we love film and still go every week! It just makes sense :)

The line, The witch and the Wedding
I feel like I've dipped my toe into the wedding pool only to fall in upto my neck! Although it's a celebration of two people it seems that everyone around wants to get a finger in your pie, so to speak. As a family person I know that family is important for something of this scale to be a success as you need the help! (God knows I can't cook a feast for a load of people and I wouldn't even try!)
However some people seem to not grasp the difference between helping, hindering and taking over. I have already experienced all three since planning our wedding.
Help! Help is when you tell someone you are self catering for 160-200 people and they offer to help cook and prepare food and be in charge :). This is helping because your aware someone has limitations and you want to contribute towards making the dream happen- THANK YOU AUNTY CAROLE- we love you :)
When trying to organise the reception venue i was really worried we were leaving it too late as i've read sometimes people book venues 2 years in advance! So when i arranged an appointment to have a look around the Barn i was excited and worried someone would beat us to the date! The last thing i wanted to hear was someone saying we should 'wait til someone has a wedding there so we can sneak in and have a look at it dressed up' errrm no. That would mean waiting and maybe losing out, it would mean that we would be intruding on someones big day and i wouldn't want that so why would i inflict that on someone else? And we'd be decorating the place differently any way so what would be the point? Answer- There isn't one its just a Hinderance!
And lastly and maybe the most annoying thing i have come across, and to be honest i didn't expect this- MY Mother. I have discussed my vision of what we want from the day from the important things like the food (hehe) to the things we don't think of as that important like the cake!
Please don't panic, we will have a cake and it will look amazing but it will not cost £400+ because when all's said and done it's a bloody cake! Something that is photographed, admired, you have the 'first cut', then it's portioned up for guests to take away in a paper napkin, forgot about for a few days then binned when you find it in your pocket or purse, covered in confetti and fluff!
'Don't worry Jo, i know what it's like to have someone try and force what they think is best on your wedding, On my cake i wanted blue roses but your Nan insisted i get yellow ones!'
At this point i felt alittle easier as she had first hand experience at what i was worried would happen to me.....the she found a local 'Cake Boutique' whose prices start from £395!! After looking at the gallery with her and looking at some pretty bland cakes she saw one where the tiers were made to look like suitcases and she was like a dog with a bone! 'Oh Jo you and Ben should have that one!'
' no mom i don't like it and i certainly do not want to spend that much on a cake!'
Half an hour passed, i wasn't in 'wedding mode' i was watching a movie when she asked again 'So that cake, are you having it then?'
'No, I want to get 4 tiers from M&S for £83 instead, the cake tastes good, it looks nice and it's OUR wedding!' This made me mad as i sounded like a fucking Bridezilla when i don't want to and i thought my Mom someone who should know me so well does not get me at all! and did a total fucking U-turn within an hour! (reminds me of another misjudged cake incident of which i will not get into! Argh! Calm...calm....calm.....and relax.
Much Love, Jo x x x
